"Reports stated that some students are divided over picking a socially conscious artist as opposed to choosing an artist who may draw a large following." - AllHipHop.com
This is the battle that we have been fighting and losing for years.
People sellout and support artists with negative lyrical content in spite of the fact that they poison our children's hearts and minds.
They only draw large crowds because of the record labels sponsorship and propaganda machine, constant radio play and TV appearances create false images of these negative rappers as somehow being cool because they have money, regardless if they actually have talent. So we sell our souls and book them, giving them even more money and shine a spotlight on them, giving them yet another platform to influence our youth. Meanwhile many talented artists starve and are frozen out of the industry because of the "lack of street credibility" or some other made up industry myths about "what the people want".
We need to stop this madness and support artists who create positive, conscious content so that we can begin to reverse the thug training and social engineering that is a plague of epidemic proportions in our community. We must fight harder against the culture war and drug ideology that combined with a myriad of social problems have stifled the growth of our babies and put them on a path to destruction.
When do we take the responsibility of stopping this madness?
NO MORE VIGILS, MORE VIGILANCE!

Subject: University May Drop Gucci Mane Performance Over Lyrics
To: paradisegray
An upcoming performance at North Carolina A&T featuring Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane is drawing criticism from students and faculty members. Gucci will be performing with artists Fabolous, Trey Songz, Keri Hilson and OJ Da Juiceman. According to the News & Record, students have been complaining to officials about Gucci’s alleged gang ties and the reflection his appearance could have on the school. “We are reviewing our options right now,” Chancellor Harold Martin said yesterday (September 30.) “We are trying to determine if this artist can be replaced under the existing contract, how that would be done, what the fiscal result would be.” Reports stated that some students are divided over picking a socially conscious artist as opposed to choosing an artist who may draw a large following. Officials with the school said the concert will continue as scheduled on October 31, since contracts have been signed - and 6,000 tickets have been sold.
